Good Student Discount

November 16th, 2007

Everyone is looking for new ways to save money on their auto insurance. It’s just one of those things in life that everyone must have in order to live with certain privileges and in this case, that privilege is driving. Now, since we all have to pay insurance premiums every month, the most we can do is to shop around for the best available price. But what most people don’t know is that most auto insurance companies offer all kinds of various discounts that they do not publicly advertise.

There are so many different discounts ranging from the big Mulit-Car Discount, which saves you up to 35 percent on your entire insurance policy, to the minute Daytime Running Lights Discount in which all you need to qualify for is to own a vehicle that comes factory-equipped with daytime running lights. Now that you understand how varied these car insurance discounts are, you should be shopping within your OWN insurance provider to see if there are any discounts that you should already be saving money on because you’re qualified and you didn’t even know it!

But before you go, the focus of this article is on the generous GOOD STUDENT DISCOUNT. This is one of the largest auto insurance discounts there are; and in my opinion, it’s for a good reason. In order to qualify for the Good Student Discount, you must be between the ages of 16 and 25 and also currently be a full-time high school or full-time college student. In most states, students must have a minimum GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 or better to qualify as well.

This discount may save you up to 15 percent on your entire car insurance policy! Males and unmarried females with less than 9 years of behind-the-wheel experience, who have already graduated from a 4-year college or university, may also be considered for this discount, granted they meet the above scholastic prerequisites. (Students enrolled in a home-study program may also be eligible if they show proof of upper-20 percent rankings for the following National Standardized Tests within the last 12 months: ACT California Achievement Test PLAN PSAT SAT I TAP)

Thousands of drivers across the United States are saving money on their car insurance with the Good Student Discount. If you feel that you qualify for this discount under the previously described requirements, be sure to check with your current insurance provider right away to see if they’re already giving you discounted rates on your monthly insurance premiums. You can also shop around for other insurance providers, considering that almost every major provider offers this discount.

International Student Health Insurance

November 16th, 2007

Studying abroad gives a lot of opportunities to students, especially college students. But with these opportunities comes greater risk. Why? Because if you are studying in a foreign land, you may not be covered with basic health insurance coverage. Often, universities and colleges offer this basic coverage, but once you apply to study overseas, that same coverage not is applicable in that country. It is therefore necessary that you be covered with international student health insurance.

International student health insurance provides medical care and treatment for students who are studying abroad. The last thing that you want to experience when you study in a different country is to get sick or meet an accident, and worry about the payment for medical bills (especially since you are away from parents). That is why to allay these concerns; most parents of students away for college have their children covered with international health insurance.

Basically, there are two types of coverage for international students: the travel medical coverage, for trips from seven days to 12 months, and the coverage for repatriation. A summer session of study will fall under the travel medical coverage, and this can provide you up to $1 million for treatment on sickness or injuries that may occur in the foreign country. The coverage for repatriation, on the other hand, includes accidental death and hazardous sports activities and pays expenses involved in getting the student back to the United States when there are no other funds available.

But with the existence of so many insurance companies offering different health insurance, it is rather hard to choose which one offers the best benefits and features. It is therefore important that you know what you really need and how long you will study in the foreign country, so you can scrutinize each type of coverage available.

So, don’t let the excitement of studying abroad make you forget of securing your health. Talk to your parents about getting coverage now.

The Benefits of Travel Health Insurance

November 16th, 2007

When you are going to have a trip, it is necessary to think over a financial side of this question and about medical insurance, as everything can happen during the trip. Usual health insurance plans limit the costs and amounts that they will pay outside the country and essential care may be postponed while arrangements for payment are made. So, before starting for a trip, make sure that your health insurance is alright. Your first step must be checking with your ordinary health insurance company to see what exposure they offer for overseas travel. Practically no company offers anything but the most limited of emergency medical expenses.

There are many companies that provide travel health insurance policies online, and in many cases can actually through online application. Travel health insurance plans offer not only medical benefits. Most of them cover many expenses associated with your illness. If your condition requires immediate return home, for instance, your health insurance plan pay for you to make the trip safely, including equipment, first class travel, or a nurse.

If it is necessary to come back home your health insurance plan may pay for a family member to travel back home with you. They may pay for children to be returned safely home if you become ill and are not able to travel with them, including hiring a warden to see their safety, and, if a medical emergency or other disaster at home requires your urgent return, your health insurance plan may cover up the cost of your return home.

The price of travel health insurance depends on the duration of time that you need coverage and the age of the person who is insured. As usual, a healthy adult under 30 can get medical coverage abroad for as little as $1.25 a day for up to $50,000 in expenses. You can check online at travel web sites and health insurance web sites to find your best deal.

Health Insurance for College Students

November 16th, 2007

There are three main types of student health insurance policies. Medical costs while in college can be paid by their parents’ health plan, the college health plan or commercial student health plan. All these types of policies have their advantages and drawbacks. Before learning the details of each type of policy, it is necessary to realize the need of the health insurance. It does not matter what kind of policy you choose, first of all you should ensure in some main points such as access to medical care both at the college and at home, insurance against any sport-related injuries and some others.

The advantages are as follows: college student can be enclosed as a dependant by parents’ health plan. There are three basic points with this plan: no conscription action is necessary, it is low-cost and the parents’ health plan gives a student comparatively good treatment at home. But every policy this one has its drawbacks as well. If a student studies near home, it is possible that the access to medical services will be limited.

The advantages of college health plan are as follows: most colleges suggest their own student health insurance programs. They offer brilliant on-campus access to health care and give enrolled students a possibility to get a limited treatment of preexisting health troubles. Low price is another strong point, but still these health plans propose very limited access to medical care outer the campus. The appointment is required for each major treatment and student health insurance policies given to then in the college have incomplete maximum coverage, making them insufficient for coping with any disastrous medical costs.

The advantages of commercial student health plan are maximum treatment and medical care accessibility. They offer nation-wide coverage with nearly every medical provider which is available. They are also flexible. It means that the payment is done on month-to-month basis. But still the main drawback high price, that is not very affordable for everyone.

Medical Health Insurance for Children and Students

November 16th, 2007

To fight a growing problem of   kids living in the USA without any health insurance about 10 years ago Congress suggested a plan named Title XXI (or the State Children’s Health Insurance Program [SCHIP]).  According to this state plan  the families whose earned income is  not enough  for private medical health insurance  but  too high to have right  for Medicaid  can get  medical care for their  kids just by paying  5%  maximum of their  annual income, or , in most cases, completely free.

Title XXI sets minimum standards which should be 100% met by each state. They are   the following: provision of a good physical examination of babies and children, programs of immunization and different kinds of emergency services. But all the states are also provided with considerable freedom under the State Children’s Health Insurance Program and the programs running in each state vary.

What should be noted here is  that this plan is  made up to provide protection for  the kids who  have  no  medical insurance  protection and that  kids who are already  protected by a health insurance policy  are not eligible for any  cover under the  implementation of this plan.

In case when children   turn to be eligible for protection under this state plan but are not eligible for Medicare you can regard taking care about them either under a private family plan or on some individual plan.  This way, it will usually, but not in all cases, be to provide protection under a family plan. If you want to provide with medical care only one kid, the best option here is an individual plan.

In case of students - most educational institutions have their own health care polyclinics for the treatment of routine illnesses such like colds and minor sport injuries.  However, you should have some sort of medical health insurance in case of unexpected medical problems including surgery.

When it possible, you should look to protect   kids by your own personal or family plan insurance and most plans will protect   kids even when they are at school. But there may also be some limitations   put under these circumstances that are why you should read carefully through the insurance plan details.

If you think your kids need personal medical health insurance to be protected at college, then you should consider several insurance companies that   work especially for the students’ needs. This is where you should conduct a careful research to be sure your children are getting the protection needed.

Whatever you choose, you should not think that the government will bear responsibility for the care about your kids and that the educational institutions they study in will do the same for you when they become students. You, being their parents is/are the one /ones who is really responsible.

Student Health Insurance can be really affordable

November 16th, 2007

If you are one of those college or university students who are planning to travel to study abroad for the incoming semester then you should   consider obtaining of an abroad student health insurance. They can be really affordable, especially if compared to medical charges you would have to spend out of your own pocket if you happen to fall ill or to get injured while studying abroad.

Students who are planning to study abroad can normally obtain travel insurance with an insurance company specializing on this. Overseas student health insurance can be purchased to last anywhere and for any duration, depending on the company providing insurance services from which it has been purchased. One can also obtain a long-term overseas student health insurance if he/she is planning to study abroad for more than one year.

When you are searching for an affordable abroad student health insurance – be ready to provide a specific info about your trip and yourself in particular. Questions will be different with different insurance companies, but mostly they are as follows:

• The country where you plan to study.

• The date of departure and the date of return.

• Your own age and the age your spouse and kids.

When you are obtaining any other insurance, you should be very careful. Always check up   all the info about the insurance companies you are choosing among.  Compare the ratings for both the operating stability of the insurance company in question and the operating security. You can request this information from your state department of insurance or from some independent research company.

Graduate Student Health Insurance - Individual or University Policies?

November 16th, 2007

You have obviously just finished your studies in some college or university with a Specialist or at least Bachelor degree in a field you love.  Then our congratulations! Maybe you made up your mind to go to work, or maybe you have decided to go to college full time, but anyway, you are lead to graduate school with your specific goals in mind.

Nevertheless, many graduate students find themselves a little bit in difficult situation when they need to settle the things with their health insurance. If you are going to graduate school, you are evidently too old to be still protected by your parents’ health insurance plan. The next most convenient way of getting health care protecting is through an employer, but, of course, this variant is impossible if you are attending   graduate school on regular basis and not work, or if you are working part time  and attending graduate school at the same time.

If you cannot get health care protection with the help of your parents or via “an employer option”, there are two variants for you to consider. You can get health care protection by obtaining of an individual health insurance policy or, one more option – to purchase a graduate student health insurance policy from the university you go to.

If you choose not to obtain any individual insurance policy, you can get health care protection through the school you have graduated from. Many graduate schools suggest health care protection, and  some of those graduate schools make the health care insurance compulsory, that is  you must  purchase graduate student health insurance policy  via the school  unless you already have a reliable health insurance policy  with another provider.
So, as you start getting ready for the next step of your education, check your graduate school if it offers to its graduate students any health insurance. If not, think about obtaining of a personal health insurance policy. You have several choices to choose, you may even find that you even do not even need any insurance policy.

Student Health Insurance - Tips to Help You Choose the Right Policy

November 16th, 2007

It is summer 2006. Young and not so young people are graduating from school and there are millions of people who are starting to think about student health insurance. Here are some tips for parents and students who are looking for health insurance for a college student, health insurance for a graduating college student or health insurance for an older graduate student. There are a lot of choices. This article is designed to give you an overview of the choices available to students.

Health Insurance For College Students You should explore all of the medical plan options available to you. Your choices may include:

  1. Getting health insurance through the student’s employer.
  2. Getting medical insurance through your local Blue Cross Blue Shield or other private health insurance plan.
  3. Getting “college student health insurance” through a plan offered by their college or university.
  4. Getting health insurance as a dependent on the policy of a parent or spouse.

When looking for the non-group health insurance plans that are available in your area, you may want to contact your state’s insurance department. You can contact them and find out which companies market individual health insurance in your area. Health care choices for the out-of-state student If you live on campus, look into the plans offered in each area. If your parents live in Florida, but you go to school in Texas, you should see what health insurance plans are available to you in both states. A student who has a permanent address of Connecticut and attends Yale in New Haven should only purchase a Connecticut-approved plan. If the same student transfers to UCLA, he or she can also explore plans offered in California. Some plans may even charge differently based on your zip code, so even if your two addresses are in the same state, you may still save money by looking at rates for both areas. Health Insurance For A Graduating College Student You should explore all of the medical plan options available to you. Your choices may include:

  1. Getting health insurance through the former student’s employer.
  2. Getting medical insurance through your local Blue Cross Blue Shield or other private health insurance plan.
  3. Purchasing short-term health insurance to cover you until your employer-sponsored plan becomes effective.
  4. Getting health insurance as a dependent on the policy of a parent or spouse.

Medical Insurance Plans to Watch Out For:

  • Discount plans. These are not health insurance plans! These plans can save you money on health care, but only offer discounted services and not true insurance benefits. If you had a major accident or sickness, getting 25% off of a healthcare bill of $50,000 may not give you the benefits you hoped for.
  • Accident only plans. Students get the flu, mono and even cancer. Being covered with an accident only plan can offer substandard coverage when compare to a comprehensive health insurance plan. (By the way, an unplanned pregnancy is not considered an accident either J. :-) )
  • Hospital Only or Basic Plans. These plans tend to offer good coverage in the hospital but little coverage outside of the hospital. These plans can save you from a hospital bill that might otherwise bankrupt you. However, today hospital stays are getting shorter and more and more healthcare is being done in doctors offices. If keeping your premiums low is important, consider a plan that covers you both in the hospital and in the doctors office that has a high deductible.
  • School Sponsored Clinics And Urgent Care Centers. They cover you well for the little things, but not so well for the big things. There may be no coverage for surgery or hospitalization. In contrast to hospital only plans, these plans my not cover you for a hospital stay or for surgeries.
